View Full Version : michigan timber supplier
Just wondering if anyone knows a good timber supplier in the Michigan area, preferably Northern Michigan. I'm not looking for dementional lumber. I just need to find a good source for slab sawn cedar or larch. If anyone knows of a sawyer or mill in the area that would be great.

Northern Michigan covers a wide area. The eastern upper peninsula may have what you want. You might try Manistique Saw and Planing Mill (906) 341-5922. or Nettleton wood products in Detour, (906) 297-3141. My guess is that either one would know of cedar, or could provide it. Ask for tamarack, they probably don't call it larch.

Very few cedars left in Michgan that can yieid a useable plank with tight knots much less clear. I looked for 3 months before throwing in the towel and planking with plywood. You will probably end up shipping it in if you have to go that way. Still some dandy tamarack on North Manitou Island but it is off limits for harvest.

Classified ad in Boatbuilder Magazine. 5000 bf clear Northern White Cedar rough sawn 1" x 8'. The Cedar Shop Brimley, MI 906-248-3392. I'm skeptical but it might be worth a look.
