I'd like to post some photos of our project so you can see what all this has been about. When I try, the site only allows me to post REALLY TINY ones :(

How to do it with a bit larger photos so you can actually see them.

It's been a long journey to this point as David has worked on her during the winter and the temps have been way below freezing.

Thanks for the help on the questions we've had. :)

You have to put the photos into a photo-hosting website like Imagestation or on some other website and then link to them in your post. The forum is not set up for storing high quality pictures, but it can pull them in from other places. For example, I have an Imagestation account and also have 20MB of free webspace that I got from my internet provider. Once your photos are stored off-forum, you copy the URL for the photo and stick it between this and this in your post. When people open the thread, the picture appears in that spot in your post. So, I might have a photo or drawing of a boat that I want to post. I stick it in one of my accounts, then I copy it's URL and compose a line in my forum post that looks like this:
actual url of boat pic

It then comes out like this:
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid99/pd7405ee4327217b3dc1a120b0026b585/f9f0025e.jpg

I think there is also some sort of more automatic way built into the forum to link to your photos, but I'm too old to learn new tricks (don't fetch, either - just ask my wife). No doubt, somebody will come along and explain it soon.

A couple notes:
Make sure that the photo's size is reasonable. It annoys everybody when somebody posts a photo so wide that you have to pan across the screen to see it. One fat photo will also make the entire thread, including the text that wide, and panning to read the text is tremendously annoying. There is also no reason to post super-high resolution images that are huge, slow-loading files. On a monitor, you won't likely see any difference and it makes the threads load slowly - especially for folks with slow internet connections. So find yourself a hosting site and post some photos. If it's wood and it's a boat, we want to see it!

Spin.. I like Photobucket... Easier to use than imagstation which I had for a year. Easy to download pictures to it.. then when downloaded each picture will have 3 choices under it.. highlight the URL.. all of it ending with jpg.....Hit Shift C.
Go to reply box. Go to icon of what looks like a mountain with a yellow background. Approp. screen will appear.. Hit Shift V.. URL will appear.. hit okay... Remember to put the cursor in the reply box though before hitting "OK".

This photo link I put above is not what I wanted. I'll try the other program. These photos don't show in right size, so they don't look very good.

I live above Rockport Harbor Maine and take alot of photos of the fine boats launched at Rockport Marine this time of year. This is PALAWAN a 1957 S&S 47' yawl.http://www.mainecoastguide.com/forum/index.php?t=getfile&id=188

This photo is posted on another site. Doesn't show in the preview but a highlighted url shows above. What have I done wrong? Tom Young

Thanks for the pics Spin_Drift. You've put in a lot of hard work and it shows. That sedan roof arrangement is simply beautiful - especially varnished like that. Looking at the inside picture - it must have been a real b*&%^ to get in behind the frames at the plank edges! Nice work.

Yeah it's been a lot of hard work, but David enjoys it tremendously.

It was really painfull for him to tear himself away from the boat yesterday and today so he can plow the back fields and get them ready for planting.:D

To answer Tom3, you posted a link to the PAGE the image is on, not the IMAGE link. Image links will always end in .jpg or .gif, but links to web pages can have various ends, often .htm or .html

Here's my boilerplate on posting pics here -

Remember that URL = web location, can be for a whole website, for a single web page, or for a single image posted on the web.

A good analogy for images on the web is real life -- a person living in a house on a street in a city. Web URLs have it backwards, first listing the "city"/"street"/"house"/"person" :

The Person = the image.
Bob Jones = BobJonesPhoto.jpg

The House = the web page
220 Main St = BobsPics.html/BobJonesPhoto.jpg

The Street = the website BobsPages
http://www.xxx.com/BobsPages/BobsPics.html/BobJonesPhoto.jpg

The city = the website domain
AnytownUSA.com = www.anytownusa.com/BobPages/BobsPics.html/BobJonesPhoto.jpg

And if you get confused by email addresses when compared to URL's, think of them as phone numbers
Bob's Phone = BobJones@anytownusa.com

First - don't attach photos. Most web forums don't allow it, and space
limitations are the main reason why.

Second - Instead of attaching them to a thread, post the pics on the web
somewhere. You have a free website area with any paid ISP's email account,
or use www.picturetrail.com or other free hosting service. Once posted on
the web, right-click the image to copy the URL (web address). Always test
first by pasting the image URL into the window of a web browser and see if
the image displays.

Third - once posted on the web, try this procedure while logged in to this
Forum:

1. Click the "User CP" link in the browser window in the top left of the
menu bar.
2. Click the "Edit Options" link about 1/4 of the way down the left column.
3. In the "Misc Options" at the bottom of the next page, select "Enhanced
Interface" from the pulldown list.
4. Once this interface has been selected, in any "Reply" window you can
click the "insert photo" icon --> a little yellow square icon with the stamp
in the upper right corner, the mountains in the lower center.
5. Once the little dialog box titled "Please enter the URL of your image"
comes up, paste the URL of the photo in the field.

If unsure of the procedure, test first by pasting the image URL into the
window of a web browser.

I have some boat images posted on The Maine Coast Guide forum. I can copy those addresses and post them on other sites but they have a box for pasting the image address.

Sadly, Palawan isn't my boat. This image of my boat is from my website so the address works with the image button above, because of the jpeg at the end as Thorn pointed out. Unfortunately, I can't use my private website (new computer) so have been using the photo loaders on some sites until I can get it fixed.

http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeofej4/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/merchants.jpg

My boat is a good part wood (glass hull and deck) so I have been lurking for some time and getting alot of help with fixes and maintainence. Thanks, this is a great website.

The photo of Christmas our 1961 Alden Challenger was taken in Merchants Row off Stonington Maine.
