I am getting a beautiful wooden block that I want to use on my boat. It is unfinished (not sure if it is teak or mahogany, will see when I get it). Any suggestions on how to finish it ?
The other teak trim on my sailboat is finished with Cetol but I am not sure if this the best approach for a block.

On my own boats, I try to keep the blocks varnished as I like the look. Some guys like linseed oil and others like Cetol. Its just a matter of what you like best. I have a board that has a row of dowels set on end that have been turned down to fit the axel holes of my blocks. I stick a block on a dowel and then it is kind of like a lolly pop and easy to varnish. Then I place the dowel in to one of the holes in the plank which is a good set up for drying the blocks.
