I'd like to make a quick plug for the organization I help run un Portland, Maine, The Compass Project (www.compassproject.org). We build boats with at-risk youth for all the obvious reasons. We are a NON-PROFIT organization struggling with the need to have more groups to get the funding and the result is we need a plan to market and sell these boats. Up until I arrived there was no such plan. We produced a flyer, are in contact with local marine related papers, and have posted three of our boat designs up on yachtworld. The boats are a 13 1/2' Nez Perce, a 12' Bevins Skiff, and a Gloucester Light Dory. They can be found using the search on www.yachtworld.com.
That is about as far as we have gotten, but I am looking for HELP from the forum. Spreading the word about the boats available -- excellent quality, good deals -- and about our cause. We think we could be one of the most impactful orgs in Maine. But we need to find homes for boats. The BEST THING would be to find owners to commission their boats so the kids are building the boat FOR SOMEBODY and seeing more meaning from the experience because there is an obvious need to build the boat.
We are in our 5th year and have an ambitious 5-year plan, but no real commissions or boat sales yet (one possible 12' dory commission is all). Please visit our site and contact me for more information. Your ideas, spreading the word, and interest would be wonderful.
Cheers,
Clint
