There has been a bit of interest in a build yourself 18 foot sportsboat on Sailing Anarchy lately,

http://www.i550sportboat.com/

Its not pretty but it looks like fun, especially to an old skiff sailor.
We have an active sportsboat racing scene here in Sydney, but the designer is also promoting a "Box Rule" class for racing as well.

He apparently had 15,000 hits on his site the day SA listed the design, and has sold over 30 sets of plans in the last few weeks.

This might be a fun Wooden Boat project, what do you think?

One of the more exciting and inovative ideas I've seen in a long time. Should be cheap enough to build that even an old fat man could take a chance at a fun ride!

Yeah, its really a big racing skiff with self righting ability. Seems just the thing for more mature folk to have some real fun, sort of like a big Tasar with an Assy.
