It's a shame they didn't express it quite the way you did. 40-50 feet is not quite the same as 1/100 of a mile to the wider imageination.

Or,
Using the passenger-miles that the airlines love to quote and her stated persons aboard number (2794) and 100gal/mi do we get 279 pass.mi/gal? (Not so bad)
But then my math guesses are often way off.

The fifty feet per gallon doesn't sound bad to me considering there are nine diesel engines!

Did I figure it right? ~23 pmpg? sheesh.
Of course, that's as good as my Ranger, and unlike my Ranger it includes heat/ac, water use, food cooking in half a dozen restaurants, laundry, floor show, slot machines, elevators and of course running lights. Possibly not so bad. Wouldn't we be alarmed if we knew the fuel cost of our non-commuting lives?!?

Well...I guess that I got 30,000 miles on 3 gallons of gas/oil mix and 60 gallons of diesel fuel.......that sounds a lot better.......:D

I don't do my taxes either:rolleyes:
Sure, 50 feet per gallon doesn't sound so bad but that's cruising on the open sea. I bet in stop and go traffic its no better than a Hummer.
