Mornin' all. I, in the coming months, am shifting all my other hobbies back to the love of the wooden boat. One boat I've only seen on TV and can probably build by adapting from other designs is something of a long(at least 20'+) outboard powered skiff. I've seen these mainly on fishing and expedition shows showing something of latin and south america. Some appear to be in the range of 30 feet or more as well. Great for just a cruise in the coastal waters, probably originally used as fishing boats, but now used to carry tv crews and all the gear that has to be with them on these sites. Does anyone have any idea where any information on this style of boat is; pics or anything?

It sounds like you're talking about the Panga, which is a relatively generic term used for long, slender commercial outboard skiffs all over the world.

Here's one in Mexico:

Google "Panga" and you'll find all sorts of information.

Here are some free plans for outboard powered fishing skiffs from the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization that might fit your needs:

Brian - that's a fantastic resource. The skiffs are the real deal and the documentation is first rate.

If you want some conceptual plans you can check out Jacques Mertens site:

www.bateau.com (http://www.bateau.com)

In the powerboats section he has designs for several lengths of Pangas. The vast majority of mexican pangas and fishing boats are snot, but south in venezuela and some of the smaller countries you might find a wood one.

How many you want? Jacques Mertens at;
http://www.boatplans-online.com/
shows two or three.
These are modern plywood/'glass/epoxy composites designed specifically for the "one-off" builder. Because of their light weight they can get by with smaller motors than the Carribean originals.

Here in south Louisiana, the Lafitte skiff is popular as a one man fishing boat.

Here's one made of plywood and rigged for shrimping

Here's another made of cypress planks, under construction.
