We're now a two boat family and we need to come up with a name for the "new" one. The first one is Julie K. Would it be improper to name the second boat Julie K II?

We chartered a boat once named "After You". The local joke was that the owner had convinced his wife to let him buy a boat by saying "If you let me buy the boat, I'll name if after you..."

Is the second boat big enough to need a name?
Julie K II isn't especially imaginative either:rolleyes:
We know a couple whose three daughters' names all begin with the letter "A".
It sort of reminds me of the people who name their houses (Why!?) dumb things like Belly Acres.

We used to own two COMPAC 16's, one up north, the other in Florida, the first was named Sandpiper, when we got the second, we named her My Tern.

an apalling lack of originality, to me.

If you were from Cape Breton you would understand why we named our Acorn dinghy "Herself"!

How about

Juliette

... well, it might be more fitting for a tender to Julie

You could name it after the "Mother in Law" and earn some Brownie points from her indoors....depending of course on how you get along with said mother in law.:D

A friend received a beetlecat which included a tub of loose brass letters. He tells me he and the crew in the boatshop spent hours with the letters on the bench, rearranging them during breaks into every conceivable combination, and finding no suitable, or even pronounceable name. He even went online to scrabble.com to discover all the 7-letter possibilities - there weren't any!

The best candidate is a fictitious Spanish sounding noise that he hopes doesn't have a colloquial meaning.

Thanks for the input all.

The "new" boat is a Catalina 27. I know. Not wood but the price was right and the rest of the family thought it would be a good idea to have a little larger boat than the Weekender. SWMBO didn't appreciate my suggestion to name the boat after my first girlfriend or even the second to last. Lard A** is probably out of the question, too. I don't think I'll ask her about that one anyway.

The latest thought is to come up with a Norwegian name. I thought Lena might be good. When I build a dinghy we could call it Ole. :D She didn't go for that either.

We like Polarlys or Nordlys but the first might be difficult to understand on the radio. Besides I can't properly pronounce the "lys" part of either one.

I expect the sailing season will be over before we come up with a name but I guess having the boat on the hard will make it easier to change it anyhow.

I saw the work you've been doing on it on Franks site. looks good. When does she go in ?

Thanks John. She's in her slip now. I waited until after she was afloat to remove the bulkhead but as you've probably seen it is replaced. I've got new masthead sheaves coming and will install them before mast raising. With other things on the schedule it might be two weeks before the mast goes up.

I didn't realise she was in when you did that work. looks as good as new eh.:D

Yeah, if you don't look too closely at the wood grain pattern. ;)
