I was lucky enough to get some tickets from work for the event welcoming the Godspeed to Richmond, VA. There will be more ships at the Richmond dock tomorrow. The two there yesterday were the Godspeed and the Lady Maryland. John Smith's shallop was also on display. Today the Virginia, Pride of Baltimore II, and Kalmar Nyckel will join Godspeed and Lady Maryland.
I posted a few more pictures here (http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictures.html?id=2091760975). Sorry for the poor picture quality, but I did not know I would be given tickets to the event until yesterday, so I only had my cell phone camera.
It was a beautiful day. The speakers were not too boring - a chief from one of the Virginia indian tribes, the mayor of Richmond, England, and our own mayor, Doug Wilder. The captain of the Godspeed told me they sailed most of the way up the James, which was impressive, given that the river gets narrow near Richmond. I assume he means motor-sailed.
