Playing possum

A few minutes ago I went to the front door to whistle the cats in for the night. Cali came right in but I didn't see Moki at first. Not unusual. Then I realize the fencepost by neighbor's house doesn't have the right profile. I slowly realize somethig is sitting on top of the post. It's not big enough to be Moki so I was wondering if it was a squirrel. As my eyes adjust a little I see a shape behind it on the fence. It's Moki! And he's coming over to check out the creature. I ran inside for the camera and when I came out I saw the pointy tail - it was a possum. Moki came right up to it 'til I called him in again and he jumped down and came in. I did get a couple of pics.

It's so cool how still they can be if they think they've been seen. :)

That is cool , sorta like this guy:eek: only with flashy eyes:D

He didn't seem afraid of the cat, I'd think the possum would win that battle quite easy.

I had a Chesapeake bay retriever who was a possum killin son of a gun:eek: She'd snatch um right off the top of the 6 ' fence , they didn't last long in that fight:D

They do have a mouth full of teeth, sorta ugly suckers as well.

So your cat come when you call them :confused::confused:

Mary Ellen's old cat Michaela had a pet opossum, sorta.

We had a skunk under the barn. No confrontations, it wasn't a problem, but you could tell it was there by the odor. I used to feed my cat at the time, Shadow, out on the porch. I'll never forget looking out one night and watching Shadow, a little black cat, and the skunk wrestling. They were playing like kittens around the food bowl. No spraying, just fun. I imagine Mr. O'possum similarly. Unless the cat is really hungry it's not prey, so let's play!

The only NA marsupial, eh? I've only seen one once. Spooky eyes on Moki!
