Hayden and Fern Brown took my wife Mary and I along with a boatload of other guests for a lovely daysail on the Bay -- out of Richmond, right through a pre-start race of the Encinal YC, under the Bay Bridge, around Angel Island **twice** and home again.

As you can see, we really pressed the boat -- putting the rail under even with the fore-jib down and one reef in the main.

We also saw the Potomac steaming her way majestically across the SF waterfront - quite a sight.

Got in the wind shadow of Angel Island on the return and dropped the sails to motor in -- then had champagne and chips at the dock. Very nice day on the Bay!

I bought a sail off eBay made by Pineapple. I'd never heard of them but it looks like they make a tough sail and are well regarded in SF. :D

What is that grid material lining the bulwarks and deck?

Yes, the sails were very buff, and strong as well..

Don't know, something to protect the deck from the anchors and chains but still allow drainage.

Thanks Thorne,
Great photos. Love all those ropes.
Lots of other sails, and the bridge looks great with it's tower tops in cloud.
