Hey Folks, Thought some might be interested. Met Roz Savage two days ago while she was doing some last minute prep. on her boat. Turns out she has been preparing for her solo row across the Pacific just down the street from the fire house. She was due to depart today, for the first leg to Hawaii. You can follow her progress @ rozsavage.com. She has some u-tube vids posted. John

Thanks for the link, JC. Spent quite a while looking around her site. Quite amazing. I'd like to cross an ocean, but in a sail boat, not a row boat!

That could be an easy double-hander. Where do I sign up?

A while back a buddy of mine and I rowed tandem from South Lake Union out to Sandpoint on Lake Washington, then rowed back. In all, it took about five hours round trip. I slept great for the next three nights.
Row across the Pacific? Alone? Whoa.
She better take a beach ball to talk to.

It's the row back home that would get me  ;)

It wasn't long ago that two guys rowing across the Pacific found their
unsinkable boat was indeed unsinkable but having been ripped in two it would no longer respond to the sweeps. They were lucky to survive.
Folks who have nothing better to do than test their mortality do not deserve the celebtity they get.

I disagree, quite vigorously in fact.
In most cases, I admire their gumption, and enjoy reading about their adventures.
Go to Roz's web site, and read the section entitled "Roz's story." In my view, she's more deserving of celebrity than the great majority of the "celebrities" you'll find in New York, Hollywood, Nashville, or wherever.

I will follow her story with great interest.
Adventurers like this are what life is all about, and the reason all great explorations take place.
Rather than being disparaged, she should be encouraged by those of us without the courage to take on an almost unimaginable task.

I'll bet crawling into the "cabin" to sleep at night would be a little like crawling into the washing machine during the spin cycle. I wonder how often that thing rolls when not under oar power.
