Thorne, you might like this.
A nice hand forged rigging knife and fid. I think it turned out rather nice.

Ooh, very nice.
Where'd you get it?
Custom made, modified, etc.
What wood is the fid?
I have got to get one one of these days, but I rarely find ones I like.
Hans.

My guess is the knife is from Norway, Sweden or Denmark -- and probably fairly expensive. The fid looks to be oak.
Very nice!

First of all - a disclaimer: I have no interest in this party at all, I am not on here to get stoned for selling online. This is the resources section of the forum and I thought I would pass it along.
Since I do a little reenacting on the side myself, and live here in the midwest, I know several gunmakers and edged weapon makers around the area. This happens to be hand forged by a fellow I know in Tennessee. He also makes the sheath and this is a custom 1 off. Not as pricey as you may think. PM me if you want his name and number. He tempered it so as not to be brittle and the back side is thick enough to hammer through rope.

Is that an Arch Davis design? The plan, I mean.

Sweet!
Always good to know sources for period tools. The last reenactor knife I purchased was one of the replica trader knives from Jas Townsend & Sons -- looks the part and came black from the forge, but won't take an edge worth anything...

Rick,
Yes, that is my Penobscot 17 drawings.
