hmm, does photobucket have any size controls? Or is it like the old photopoint.. you have to size em before you upload em.

It works. Buncha white people in white clothes, and everyone's happy except the old goat on the helm.

LOL. Thats Backstay Bill in a different mode. Windward Willy is what we call him when he's got control of the tiller.

Billy Boomfunk MC when he's rolling around on the foredeck.

Downhill Bill when the kite is up

But "Old Goat" .... I like it.!

damn it... I'm going to run with it.:D

looks like we've finished a race sometime , no idea when.. I just uploaded one random pic to try out photobucket. Imagestation is down for maintenance .

Photobucket has a setting for maximum upload size. It doesn't affect pics already there.

I thought that might be a bit big?
this is half the resolution thereabouts( I think)
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd48/Waione_photos/whalebay.jpg
similar dimensions but half resolution again.
http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd48/Waione_photos/101_0107_1.jpg

geez , that means you have to edit for dimension. all my compressed file pics have random compression to suit what I was doing at the time or how many I wanted to upload at a time.... Imagestation makes em all one size.

can you upload several at a time? I'm used to uploading 5 or 10 at a go.

I use photobucket and set the width at 600 pixels for horizontals and 400 or so for verticals. What comes out is what goes in. You can upload three shots at a time.

Down under the default 3 download slots, there's a button saying "add more." Click it, and you can upload 15 at a time.

Thanks Donn, I'll try it.

Erster! You've been missed down below!

Jon (Old Goat) B: Photobucket is much nicer IMHO: it may not have quite as much control as Imagestation did, but I do size my pics first and then post 'em. I'm really fond of the "click-and-it's-copied" function for getting the picture's URL for posting, too. You can upload up to 20 pics (what the "Big E" said) by clicking on the (upload more) (further confuse the server) (Oliver Twist) button.

Personally, I'd rather scroll and pan to see the large pictures when posted as they reveal so much more detail, but that's just my personal preference. I like looking at the splices and cringles.

Really? Looks all the same to me, redundant and tired, unlike me and my new projects, and running along just fine, all fitting and meeting the needs for the homesteaders to me.;) :p

As far as photobucket and its ease of use, I start out shooting all of mine at 450 x 600. This size works pretty good for the dialup guys and this slow server.

I just load from the disc or computer, click on the bottom line, highlight it and walla photo shows up for this simple feller. If I can do it, I bet anyone with a computer can do it. I can even multi-task, too, incorporating shots of real boat and sailing shots here, too. :p

FWIW, you can resize images once they are uploaded to Photobucket. If you select the image from the thumbnail view, there's a resize option at the top. See the red ellipse in the upper left corner. Also, for posting images on forums you can just click on the Image code link. The link with the tags are automatically copied to the clipboard. This link is also available on the thumbnail page.

I've got the multiple uploader thing going ok but I'm danged if I can find the resizer gimmick.

%^$#@* found it , can't make it work.
ah well I can upload new ones in a small format but if I dip into my already compressed folders a la imagestation they'll be different sizes.

John, click on the thumbnail of the picture. You should find at the top of the new version of the image the Resize button.

When I started this thread it was because imagestation was slow and there were a lot of images out.
Now that we know that the Sony Scumbags are shutting it down, this is another image size test.
One of Sku's pics.

I can live with that. Just upload low res smaller pics.

'Japonica" Sup to the Yachtsman No 562, January 1902
Pic: West & son, Southsea
Amazing detail, think the dinghy is canvas over frame
No specific info available but a lot of these British vessels were built by Summers & Payne and Camper & Nicholson. She could of course be an American yacht as many came over for the royal regatta's at Cowes.
I have a collection of these pix that I'm gradually scanning and sending to JohnB and Gavin Atkin http://intheboatshed.net/
I have about 70 pix that I am not able to load to WBF from here. Pix from the Yachtsman and other yachting journals from 1887 to about 1909. Mostly on the Solent, off the Royal Yacht Club.

Is there an option on Photobucket to get rid of all the fancy effects (fades, panning, zooming, etc) on the slideshow?

John Boone
09-11-2007, 09:24 PM
Allan, good question. I don't know the answer yet but I am looking for a way to do just that. There are many options in terms of the different "style sheets" you can apply to the slideshow but so far I have not found the "simple" mode....Are you able to view the slide show in my test post?

The slideshow shows as a thumbnail hyperlinked to the slideshow on the Photobucket site. The link worked.

Allan, thanks for the verification. I changed the slideshow mode to a simpler strip but I don't see an option for just a simple, timed, frame by frame display. I'll keep looking but if anyone else knows how please feel free to chime in. I just set up a PB account today so it is real new to me.

Picturetrail has a nice slideshow feature. Once the slideshow has been created it gives you the code to embed the slideshow in your website.
The options for the slideshow in Picturetrail are better in my opinion.
