by Alastair Hamilton.
All about voyaging in Vertue.
Looking for an old copy that somebody is willing to sell to me. Rare as hen's teeth in the UK, probably as they were only published in the States.

For some very odd reason I have yet to understand, MANY US businesses loose out on some very good on-line custom, simply because you don't accept payment from, and shipping to, a foreign country!
This applies to chandlers, computer suppliers, and Amazon.com especially.
I am surprised, given the current economic mess over there, the strong pound over here, a more, let's say, globalised and intelligent approach to business....
Rant over - but I have a point!

It was published in England, and there are copies out there -- mostly in the US. I know Amazon sellers for the most part do ship internationally, because I am one and they make it bloody difficult to opt out of shipping internationally.
Part of the problem is that the US Post Office stopped shipping surface internationally, which means it's awfully expensive to ship the books. I recently had to spend $33 shipping a $25 book to Australia. If I recall correctly, however, The Restless Wind should fit in a global priority mail flat-rate envelope, which brings the shipping cost down to about $12 or so. Could be wrong, I read the book as a kid. It's an old favorite.
Try Bookfinder.com or Addall.com to find a copy.

Sadly everything I click on brings me back to Amazon.com even though they clearly say it could get shipped for $12.49 as you suggest.
This is policy is not exclusive to Amazon and low value items. I wanted a Dickinson Newport Heater for my little boat last Winter and that ended-up in the same wild goose chase with the same result - we dont ship to the UK. In the end I bought an antique British Yacht stove that fits the boat perfectly - so I suppose on that occasion it worked out well for me and my boat.
PS. Dickinson since have since got a dealer in the UK that has priced the Newport heater above that of a British built Davies HotPot or Faversham stove - far superior products in my opinion.
