See below for a $40 wood lathe...perfect for rehandling old chisels if you don't have access to a "manly" lathe.

Wood lathes are pretty low tech pieces of machinery (viz treadle/bow lathes, etc.

so if you don't have a lathe and wanted to try rehandling old flea market chisels on the cheap, Jorgensen/Adjustable Clamp (http://www.adjustableclamp.com/) makes this little drill powered lathe, 24 ins between centers x 3 ins swing.

Just $40 (you'll need to supply power via a corded drill or other small electric motor).

I found this on the ToolMonger. Here's the post where I found it and a "hands-on" review:

Thanks for the post Nicholas,
I love the look of that drill powered lathe-
I will have to call them and see what the damage would be to post it to Australia.

I have had a range of ways that I set up dodgey (I mean DODGEY) drill powered poor-mans-lathes to help with a few things when I get sick of spokshaving new handles- this one would fit in my limited workspace and seems remarkably affordable.

Cheers, Hans.

Looks bodgey to me.

Sorry couldn't resist.
Thanks for all the links. A pole lathe is on my big list of things I'd like to build someday.
