View Full Version : "saltwater" swing-away rolling jack - worth it?

My Waste Marine swing-away rolling jack is starting to rust solid, despite fairly regular use (every 2 weeks or so).

Are the galvanized 'saltwater' models worth the extra $? I now know to smear it with waterproof bearing grease before use...

I've never had this problem before with regular jacks, so it could just be a cheap WM jack. Oiled and greased the jack shaft, still binds sometimes so much that it takes two hands and clamping the roller in place to get it up or down.

You need to completely disassemble the jack and liberally lube the screw and nut.
Otherwise, none of them will work for long.

I use moly-based grease - the blacker the better and paint it on all the threads with a chip brush.

Thanks, Jake.

Do you think that waterproof bearing grease would work OK? I happen to have lots of it around somehow...

Yup...
