Need help please. Looking for side view of J boat Ranger. Have seen side views of waterline and up but need full side view.
Am looking at building a scale R/C model for AMYA J Class boat races.
Any J boat side view would be welcome also.
Thanks in advance for help

See Ian Dear's Enterprise to Endeavour: The J Class Sailing Yachts.

Lest we bring too much land speak into boat speak, the correct description for the side view of a vessel is a "sheer plan". In land speak it would be an "elevation". No offense intended.

Well, it is more commonly referred to as a profile; I certainly use this terminology in my drawings. As far as Ranger's lines go, I think the J class book would be a good start, but it actually might be cheaper to obtain them directly from Sparkman Stephens in NYC. Last time I purchased plans from them it was $50 per set

Well, profile must be a new form of boat speak! It think that when I worked with Bruce King, he used that term for some of the drawings he subminted to me. However, my old head is still accustomed to the terms used by the older designers I have worked with.

For more info go to: Google -Elizabeth Meyer J boat launch
Also I believe there was a complete story of the rebuilding of "RANGER" by Elizabeth Meyer in Wooden Boat.

I'll side with Jay Greer on this terminology thingie but, alas and alack!, the term has nigh-on gone the way of the noble dodo bird; the more prosaic term "profile", or yet worse, "side profile"(as opposed to the "stern profile" view or the "plan profile" view) has sadly become the norm in my experience.

That looks like Endeavour to me, or perhaps Shamrock V which are the J's she restored.
