Hey guys, Imagestation is closing in November...I have hundreds of images linked to posts here and will not consider re-doing these posts as the amount of time would be astronomical. Some of the photos on threse threads are on Photobucket or Picture Trail...but most are on Imagestation. See what they sent me today....

On February 1st, 2008 Sony will close the ImageStation® online photo service. The closure will happen in phases and most site features such as upload, sharing and shopping will be disabled on November 12th 2007.

We sincerely appreciate your being a Premium ImageStation member and we want to help you find a new home for your images so we've worked with Shutterfly, the award winning photo service-together we've made it easy to transfer your photos to Shutterfly so you can take advantage of their online storage, sharing and award-winning prints and gifts. If Shutterfly isn't for you, that's OK-we've put together several ways to reunite you with your images. Just click on the link below to review all your options.

Please choose the option that is right for you before February 1st, 2008 because at that time the ImageStation web site will be permanently closed and any images left behind will be deleted.

So, If anyone likes particular threads..such as the building Susan threads, you better print them cause when Imagestation shuts down, that will be that. The easiest thing to do is to print/save the sections of this thread as a PDF file... I have saved all four as pdf files and will res them down...and make them available to anyone who cannot convert a thread to a pdf for themselves. Just email me and I will send them to you.

Question: Can we save a thread as a color file to view or print later...since we can print any thread...I would assume you can also print it to a file and maintain all the images as a single document in color....????? edited: didn't think about printing to file as pdf...dhuh!!! very easy. sorry

CAN ANYONE RECOMMEND A BETTER IMAGE STORAGE ENTITY...OTHER THAN...SHUTTERFLY, PICTURE TRAIL, PHOTOBUCKET...JUST WONDERED...

I may end up putting Susan as a project on the Woodenboat project section...but I will have to put some time into that also.

This is really a bad thing...as I have so much time invested in these threads..and many other threads from the past. Many many posts that I have participated in will have many holes where photos go... and I bet many other members here have used Imagestation too.

Sorry...

We have a couple of threads going on this Rod, I'm as frustrated as you are over the one new build and 2 restoration threads I've been logging in particular.. they're goners.

Sony can stick their laptop ,tv, camera, whatever else . I'm voting with my feet, but only for the next 20 or 30 years or so no doubt.

You can, in Firefox anyway. Left click the page and select "save page as" and tell it where you want to save it. The saved file is named "showthread php.htm" A second file called "showthread php_files" is also created. It contains the image and other files on the page.

KC - you just beat me to it. "Save Page As" is also available under the Firefox File Menu.

The Slaves of Microsoft (tm) who must use IE, select "Save As" in the Page menu in IE7, then select the Type as either Web Archive or Webpage, complete -- not sure of the difference.

You should also rename the page in the Save Page As dialog box, so it means more than "showthreadxxxx", and you don't overwrite earlier saved pages and images.

So if anyone has favourite threads they want to save, start the process now, and give them titles that make finding them later an easy process...

Such a set of files could be easily uploaded to your own website, either a free website provided by your ISP or a hosted domain and disk space such as is offered by GoDaddy or others. Then put a link in the thread to the web address. That will save a lot of time over transferring individual images and updating the associated links one at a time. Anything to help preserve good threads is good.

I see were still waiting for their "multi image download" doohicky

Seems I may have to take a leap of faith and trust shutterfly will a) get them all b) not shyte itself and die in the ass in the coming months c) get it right.

Personally Id rather download the lot to the hard drive and start again... but one at a time? not likely!

Anyway in typical "Ve can an ve vill control the masses" big business way Sony leaves the multi tasking to last  and all it says is
"coming soon" yeah so's bloody chrissy!

Cheers

I am making all four sections of the "Building the Schooner Susan" series into pdf files and I will res them down a little and save them for anyone who wants them for reference. As a matter of fact, I will probably do searches and save many threads from the past that I care about like the Building Wenda threads and the Herreshoff Araminta and Quite Tune comparison...and many many others.

So...if you want any threads...just save them as a pdf file...and you will have all the images and copy just as the original...and easy to keep. FYI...the forth thread in this series was over 57 pages... so much easier to save as a pdf file...

ANYONE RECOMMEND A PHOTO STORAGE ENTITY THAT IS BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK )FEATURES ETC...OTHER THAN WHAT SONY HAS RECOMMENED...SHUTTERFLY, OR PICTURE TRAIL, OR PHOTOBUCKET...?????????? AND WHY???

Photobucket was a clear winner in the Photo hosting survey. I personaly like Picturetrail because of the slide show functionality.

Picturetrail has my vote also.

Saving the threads as .pdf files makes them easy to move around and even post on the web, but unless you've got pro-level software like Photoshop and Acrobat pro, you (and others) won't be able to get the images out of the pdf files later.

That's just one reason why I recommend saving them as web pages -- anyone can access them and the images can be saved locally if desired.

I have the first four sections saved as pdf files and also as Web Archive files...size of these is the same whether pdf or web archive. I think most anyone on the WB forum can save these sections of this long thread as "web archive" if they cannot save them as a pdf files...

Thanks everyone for your interest.
