The skier never had right of way in the first place, as the tow crossed the big boy's bow from the port side.

I thought that only applied to jet skies?

Actually I have found that water skiers. tubers, and wake boarders typically do the dumbest stuff on the water. IE dragging their 8 year old directly in front of my 53ft sailboat with 2200 square feet of sail set, doing 10 knots. Of course the 8 year old falls off and it's a fire drill to try to not run over the little bugger.

Generally speaking the driver is only concerned with sending their rider over the biggest waves, not staying out of the way of a big sailboat.

Get me drunk and we'll talk about the bow wave of the QE II an R.I.B. and someone not a million miles away.

They were the prototypes of Avon Seariders we were supposed to be giving them rough use.

At the start of the last Devonport to Mahurangi night race, this coastal trader deviated from the marked shipping channel, cut the corner and barged through the start line with about ooo 30 boats +lined up.

It caused quite a bit of grief in the boating community here, if you can't get out of the way of a commercial vessel by making out of the shipping channel then all bets are off aren't they.
This guy was belligerent and I believe it was simply a case of " watch this, boys"

The skipper of the commercial vessel was called in and interviewed by the harbourmaster, censured and warned in writing and a notice to all commercial vessels was posted to adhere to the appropriate lanes.

Could have been very different.

A LAW at the forward bow waterline would have been appropriate...

John, if the depth marks are on the starboard side, at least Don was kind enough to post what was to port...

Thats a woodenboat forumite, Jase, in Loloma E24 incidentally.
He had an epiphany that day, joined a gym, turned into this racing version of himself and started living a very clean life....and....and planned a new rig for Loloma, one that would give him much better acceleration.( being built now).

quite a day.:D
