You need and deserve that boat, Todd.
It's nice to see the seller list the reserve @ $2000. Go for it Todd.

Oh Geeeeeeeze......I showed the listing to my wife. About five seconds later, she said (impersonates Latvian accent) "Ve need it!"
Why can't I have a typical boating wife???....the kind that threatens to dismember you and feed you to the dog if you buy another boat? Now I have to decide whether or not to bid on it? We aren't wealthy and having never been wealthy, I'm kind of a tightwad. On the other hand, it is one of my favorite boats, if the workmanship is good, it's a good price and I am pretty well equipped to build a sail rig - especially a lugsail rig. I even have a spare trailer.
Some serious pondering is in order.

Let us know how your pondering goes, but in the meantime pepper the seller with questions and compliments that show you know your stuff, make sails professionally, aren't wealthy, have a trailer, are sure to finish the boat off well and get her sailing. Send a link to your book! Offer to write about and send photos (an article even, with due credit to him) about finishing the boat off, designing and making the sails and rig! He'll be honored to sell to you if he knows his stuff. May even take her off auction.
Owners are often as, or more, interested in seeing all that happen as in cash money. In that way (if the auction doesn't reach the reserve) he may stay in touch with you, make an alternate deal, etc.

todd, if you ever leave that wife of yours send her contact info with a picture of her boats to the forum...
You really are blessed with a supportive wife.
