Anyone have any experience with the paint additive Floetrol?

I'm doing some room painting but also plan on painting a plywood canoe with house paint. I'm a fan on Penatrol so I thought I'd give it a try.

It mentions on the label it "May reduce the sheen in gloss paint paint". No problem foe the room as I'm using eggsshell but I thought I might use semi-gloss for the canoe. Any thoughts. Thanks from mystic

I've used it for thinning primer to sprayable.
It took quite a bit but did the job.
Thin primer is pointless,BTW.

Used it to thin for spraying latex paints only. Works fine to help lubricate the sprayer instead of gunking it up.

I've sometimes used Floetrol when trying to keep the wet edge in 2 pack polyurethane. It aids the levelling.

I did a British Moth in a two pack waterbased polyurethane with Floetrol added to all of the paint except the sugar textured anti-skid that was straight paint. I was very happy with the result. I painted the boat as a test of Floetrol.

If you search 'Wild Wassa Floetrol' I've posts on Floetrol on this Forum going back over a few years.

While Image Station is still in existance, the photos that I posted will still be coming up. Some time in early February Image Station closes for good.

Floetrol works great with latex and acrylic/latex(waterbase) paints. It levels brush marks and extends wet edge brush times. It does knock down the gloss about half though, but I would not attempt to paint cabinets for the house without it.BTW roll on heavy and tip off with a 3inch brush..beautiful

Flood makes Penetrol for OIL based paints and varnishes and Floetrol for WATER based coatings. Each serves the same purpose for the specific type of coating you're using.

Use Floetrol with your interior latex paint. Use Penetrol with your oil based alkyd paints. DON'T use latex on your boat. That's just dumb. If you don't want to pay for the picture of the boat on the can, use a good quality alkyd enamel without a boat on the can for half or a quarter the price. Rustoleum enamel is a good bet and will work well with Penetrol.
