Well I`ll see how this goes.My son and I are attempting to build a canoe well we got the wood all laid out are was attempting to lay it out and we`re stuck one of the aft measurements. We`re using the diagram in getting started not the purchased plans from clc this could be our down fall.On the bow it clearly shows measuring up 21 9/16 over 12 inches and 18 15/16 then measure back on the bottom 3 1/16 this is the point from which you connect the bottom to the top to get the angle for the bow.Well we can`1t figure out the same points for the aft end of the boat this again doesn`t mean much as we are not boat builders..........yet anyway. Thanks in advance Mike

PS If this isn`t clear I could fax a drawing with the questionable area
Hope I totally didn`t over look something simple but we could use some help.

I'm not familiar with the plans so I could be completely wrong, but I suspect that it being a canoe, the fore and aft profiles are likely to be the same. Absent any concrete information such as the measurements from an actual boat or from another set of plans, this would be a reasonable guess.

You might be able to determine if they are the same by looking carefully at the drawings you have. If they appear to have the same shape, they probably do.

Welcome to the forum.

There is a blog for just these type of questions that you can get to from the Woodenboat home page. Click on getting started in boats and then the link to the getting started blog.

You should be able to get all of your questions on the Peace Canoe answered there.

Hi - You might try contacting CLC's help line. They are really friendly and would be happy to help you, even if you didn't purchase the plans from them. Here's the link: http://www.clcboats.com/contactform.php/cart_id=/

For other, less offficial, answers you could search the CLC forum for Peace Canoe threads, or post a question there yourself: http://www.clcboats.com/forum/bbs.pl

Boatbuilding is fun and satisfying - glad you're joining us! Good luck!

I looked at my copy of the "Getting Started..." insert and you are right, there's a missing dimension there. (and BTW, the two ends are not quite the same, the stern is lower) I'd second the advice to email CLC, I emailed a comment/question once and John Harris replied promptly. I think that he's a guy who loves to talk boats. But if you are in a hurry to proceed, here is what I would do. The height of the stern is not the same as the bow, but the angle appears to be the same. I would double check that on the drawing with a protractor, and if it is the same or nearly the same, just make a cardboard triangle from the bow lines you have already drawn, then use it at the stern to draw a line from the upper end point (which is given there) at the same angle down to the baseline. Then find the point where the angled line is the correct distance up from the baseline (ie, crosses the chine line), and this should be the point that you are trying to find.

I hope that made sense.

Hello,

I bought plans for the peace canoe also. While researching on-line the "missing dimension" question came up a couple times.

Contact John Harris. He replied quickly to a couple questions I had.

Keep us informed with the progress as I'll be starting one in the spring. Also check out this link from a guy who built one. Good Luck from mystic

Thanks Bob, I sent a email to CLC I was reluctant to do so because I figured they would simply tell me the missing dimension is in the purchased set.But I`ll see. Kinda short on the green backs this close after Christmas so I was hoping I`d save a buck.Plus the big thing was we were in a hurry you know had time off at Christmas and had hoped to build this boat we`ll see. Thanks for the feedback glad I wasn`t missing something simple makes feel much better.

I went to the CLC website and did a search in their builder's forum on "Peace Canoe" and lo and behold there was the answer.

Check out this post:

RE: Peace Canoe - Dimension (http://www.clcboats.com/forum/bbs.pl/cart_id=/?read=84633)

The missing dimension (which got inadvertently clipped during the publishing process) is 9 11/16 inches in from the extreme aft end.

Thanks Bob I also got a E-mail from Mr Harris at CLC with the same drawing.I do appreciate your taking the time to help us out now back to the work monster.I`ve added this site to my list of places to check when I need to unwind a bit from work. My son And I are really excited about building a boat Now my wife she`s the skeptic says we`ll never get it to float let alone actually finish it.http://www.woodenboatvb.com/vbulletin/upload/images/icons/icon10.gif SAd thing is she`s right most of the time. Thanks again Bob
