Some years ago I saw a really fancy wooden toolchest for sale in one of the very high end tool catalogs, nice oak, drawers lined with green felt, brass hinges etc.......rather expensive.........and then I also saw some adverts for some cheap chinese type knock offs that were not up to the same standards.........and......I know that plans were available to build one of those toolboxes....I'm looking for the plans....does anyone have any idea where.......it's a small project that I can do here without tons of big tools and something I'd like for all my special tools....
Thanks....

Probably one of these...
Plans may be tricky to find, they are machine made joints with metal drawer bottoms (felt lined) to maximize space in the chest. Search Gerstner plans, maybe-
I have two diferent models of the old type made long before the knock-offs and could take some photos if you want to work up a set of plans.

Maybe you could copy H.O. Studley's tool chest:

Wow! Hard to see where the tool-box ends and the tools start. If you lost something you'd just have to shoot yourself. N

Chuck, here's another one from Lee Valley. I built a 1/2 size version of it for a friend. He uses it to store his collection of pocket watches. Good plans, nice joinery, nice size. - Norm

The plans for this one were in Popular Mechanix back around 1980. I've still got them and if you're interested I'll send you a copy.

Here's one from the 1970's if you want portability.

Thanks all....the Gerstner box is what I wuz interested in, mostly for small technical instruments, tools etc...something to sit in the "office" with a small selection of stuff...
and Bob...I have several like the one you posted for hauling around the work tools, mostly that seem to be drifting off to the kids etc......sorta getting rid of all the big heavy stuff and just hanging on to the small hand tools.....
I have a small stock of Rosewood and teak left over from other projects...I am thinking rosewood would look nice.....
