So I'm thinking about teaching English in an asian country or somewhere similar and want to do some cheep sailing while there. Any suggestions. If you've read previous posts of mine back in the day boat school is still in my future but not now. Sailing somewhere hot warm and full of clear blue water. If they had a good music scene that would be a bonus.

Do you get a living allowance while your teaching?
If so buy and live aboard a small boat while your there.

Now you have me dreaming this dream again. Asia's a big place. With vastly different opportunities. Tokyo might pay more(not much), but moorage is ridiculous. HK has cheap boats and cheap moorage. Although it might be hard to find a job teaching English because it's so widly spoken already there. Maybe buy a boat there and sail down the coast to teach in Vietnam or go around the corner to Thailand or something? I looked at a 50', solid teak power junk built in 1990 for under a 100k. It would have been several hundred thousand here. Not that that is a sailboat, but you can see that there are definitly bargains to be had. And business licenses are cheap and easy to get in HK as well if you had another idea for income. If you had some dough to burn to spend the time to find a really good deal, I bet there are some serious deals along the rest of the Chinese coast. Junks are palatial in live aboard comfort.
I think I might have just got side tracked on my own dream. Sorry about that. Whatever you do, if you go do it, you will not be regretting it later...

well let me refine my dream a bit for you all. I'm thinking live in a grass hut, walk to teach english four days a week and then sail around in a 16 foot ish open boat and maybe snorkle off the boat while its at anchor. Repreat as necessary. Sound like a good dream. Not that a 50 foot power junk is all that bad either.

We have experience with American, International and British Schools overseas as Betty taught in a couple the kids went to over the years.
My preference would be Dubai or Muscat. The Musandam Peninsula near Dubai is a boating and diving paradise, as is all of Oman to the south. Dubai has several schools and lots of jobs. Oman has two schools and might be harder to break into, as Omani kids can't go to International Schools. English are mandatory subjects in both countries. Both countries have subsidized yacht clubs with sailing programs where you can buy or borrow a boat. The annual Dubai to Muscat Yacht Race is a real hoot. But Oman might be tough on the unmarried, as there are limited prospects.
Your place of employment may own a boat or two for you to use. My shop had a 24-foot fishing boat in Muscat we traveled up and down the Oman coastal wilderness with on camping trips.
