View Full Version : Maine BoatBuilders show.
Is it too early to think about it? Nice video here http://www.portlandcompany.com/boatShow/
Who is going to be there, anyone any special ideas this year?
We had a Cape Cod contingent last year, they've raised the toll in NH, let's see if it keeps them away. I doubt that Howard will leave the Bahamas for it.

Just marked my calendar to get that weekend off!
I was really glad to get this respite in weather as it gave me a chance to scrape off 15" of snow and ice from SURPRISE's canvas cover. I'll need a couple more side supports next winter.

This sounds like a plan. I'll make the potroast and you guys bring some appetizers and desserts. :) And beer. ;) Well, I'll have some beer, too, and some rum, maybe, but I don't know that I'll have enough for everyone. :D

Last year was the big Ice Storm right? I went Skiing and skipped the show. The show is too early - should be in late April...

I met some guys here yesterday who hope to have this boat in the show. http://www.zurnyachts.com/news/article1.html It won't look remotely like this since they have only the hull and some interior bits installed (like the Black Horse 29 last year) but at least it's wood.

The show does come early...if good weather then we'll have a great turnout. I'm trying to another Compass Project boat or two displayed this year so look out for a handsome student built 13 1/2' outboard skiff outside and a 12' Kinney designed dory inside near the Compass Project booth, way in back in a little room next to Boulter plywood. Stop by say hi; I'll be out and about, mostly.
I plan to maybe have a little faering turnover action during that weekend, if it isn't too busy.
Cheers,
Clint

Lou McNally should be good. They passed me over again.
What did you offer Gareth?
Last year I offered; "Preparing the cruising boat for offshore passages". They never even got back to me. I'm a little out of the loop in Maine boating circles.

Seems though I should be able to make it.
I'd bet if they pushed it off further till spring less people would show up.
That weekend is the psychological "tarp-off" weekend. Perfect timing.
I'm deep into a couple off renovation projects, one of which includes Victoria as a compliment.
Try to imagine that good fortune... I'm still having trouble wraping my mind about it so I am way past tarp off time this year.

Starting this weekend I'll be watching the weather... sure hope it works out. Steven - as soon as I'm sure it's a go, I'll be in touch about what to bring.
Gareth,
I'd like to hear your presentation. Did you write anything down, any notes, slides etc.

Sorry, I just saw this. No Russ, I'm a procrastinator. I already give a presentation to new crew and teach a seamanship class. So I would have morphed the two, with some extraneous stuff thrown in.

Bad news on the dessert offering from us. Margaret has a badly abscessed tooth and is going for oral surgery in the next few days. She won't be doing any cooking... and you don't want to eat anything I attempt.
Gareth,
Can you put a sticky on this thread for the week?

Chance of rain predicted for Friday and Sunday, partly cloudy Saturday. May change, of course.

Can you put a sticky on this thread for the week?
Only Scot can do that.
Good luck to Margaret, treat her well.

I'll have to pass this year. If available I'll take a rain check for 2009.

So who's coming to the Show? All y'all are invited here for dinner Saturday night. :) I'm not sure what we're having but it'll be good. Maine shrimp, for sure. Peanut soup? Chinese Dumplings? Potroast? All of the above?
I think Clint wants to have people over to see his shop and the Drake project. Maybe Friday night Clint?
It's only a few days away, see you there!

We'll probably meet in the food area at 11 on Friday and again on Saturday. I can give directions there or I'll leave some at Thad's Reddspond Boatworks booth. Or send me a PM or e-mail.
See you there.

Hope the weather holds.

I would be interested in showing my shop and current project, Drake, a 17'3" rowing faering. Perhaps Sunday morning..I will try to work it out and spread the word by word-of-mouth. DO stop by the COMPASS PROJECT booth and see what we are up to, buy a raffle ticket, and maybe say hello if I am there -- mostly I am roaming.
Cheers,
Clint
Looks like typical weather for the show...maybe Altitude Lou has a theory for us beside the obvious one...March sucks!

There's a Memorial to Dave Corcoran of Bullhouse boatworks
Maine BoatBuilders Show 2008, March 14th - 16th
The Coquina, Dave's superb replica of N.G. Herreshoff's personal 17' cat-ketch daysailor, will be on display at the Maine Boatbuilders show this weekend in Portland. Some of you may have seen the picture of Dave sailing this boat on the cover of Woodenboat Magazine (Novemeber/December 2005 issues - image attached below). Dave will also be featured in an article in the boat show program.
If you are at the show, please stop by the Bullhouse location in building 3.

This looks interesting, too:
Please stop in Bldg #30 adjacent to the entrance to the show and VISIT Maine Island Trail's 20 years of history gallery. This is free to the public.
And remember dinner here Saturday night. It would be fun to see some new faces. :)
