Tania Aebi's book of her 'youngest woman ever' solo circumnavigation? Now she's got a new trip under way. Twenty years later she's taking her teenaged sons accross the Pacific. She's still a great writer and it's a great story. This time we can follow online through her online Cruising Log. Start here, then there are about 10 more entries so far: www.boatus.com/cruising/shangrila/200708-15.asp

That is one great woman and one great blog. Will definitely follow along this year. It sounds like her husband won't be keeping up the blog as well as she has.

She's come an amazing way from a somewhat aimless bicycle messenger.

Yeah Ian - the contrast / comparison is one of the things that makes it interesting (for me at least).

Guess we've all come a long way eh? ;)

Thanks for the link.Maiden Voyage was one of the first books I read when the sea called. The first was The Arctic Grail By Pierre Beton(hence wooden boats) .This sounds like quite the adventure Tanya is taking on ,though it will be different from the last one.I'll be following this too.

I just have one question: WHAT is the matter with that guy - the ex? I mean, what more do you want in life??? I know, I know... walk a mile in his shoes etc... but still...

I love her choice in boats. Anathema here I know to like a steel boat, it's really packs a lot though.

I'm surprised that her blog is not linked in some way to Latts and Atts. She writes for them as does "Capt Woody" (shoot me if I ever call myself "captain") who she mentions helping her look for the boat.

I found the blog through the online version of L&A so the link is there.

Gareth: You need to work on marketing. You need to consider branding yourself, if you want to make it big as a sailing celebrity.

May I suggest an eye patch and call yourself Captain Ron.

I just read that book a few weeks ago? I can't believe it's been 20 years. Oh, I'm on Arky time, where time stands still. Except a week ago when we nearly got blasted out of the county by the Clinton tornado.

That's cool Bill, did you write about it?

If you haven't written about why not try to write some here. Like a Lefty's Caribbean threads. You could flesh it out later maybe.

I am not much of a writer. Cathy did a newsletter for friends and family. I may try to post some of it.

As I recall, Aebi's first circumnavigation wasn't officially solo. Although she did sail around the world, and mostly by herself, she was never really the youngest female to do anything as far as the record books are concerned.

If you read the book, you`ll find she gave a ride to a friend a short sail one time, and thus did not qualify as a solo circumnavigation. It was suggested to her that she repeat that leg, but she was,not interested in setting records as it was. Still an astonishing feat, IMHO.
