Spent the weekend at the lake cabin on Lake Kabetogama, Voyageurs National Park doing some remodeling. It took 24 hours to get the interior temp up to 50 degrees F. I'm back home now about 250 mi south of "The Falls" and it is a balmy 0 degrees F. Somewhat interesting fact: International Falls recently won a legal battle with a city in Colorado over the trademark for the slogan "Icebox of the Nation" I think they hope the designation might bring the local economy a boost with the recognition! It has previously been the location for filming Die Hard battery commercials as well as the Freeze Your Gizzard Blizzard Run which my brother tried to get me to run with him for several years.
I'M READY FOR WINTER TO END, BRING ON GLOBAL WARMING. I would welcome someone to post some pictures here of someplace warm. (blueberry picker is my granddaughter)

Yeah - that's cold. Its 8:00am here - and I'm wearing shorts. Something to be said for flying south for the winter eh?

I'm looking out the window and thinking its just about time to mow the grass, although thankfully it does grow slowly this time of year.

Hey, I had to mow the lawn and rake all the grass yesterday -- Winter in California, so brutal!

Great Broomball weather!! What's the snow depth up there right now?? Looks beautiful! We've got maybe 10 inches, but there's an ice layer halfway down. Pretty lame.

It's been bad here, too. Every time it creeps up to a reasonable temperature we get nailed with more snow. Supposed to get another 4" tomorrow, which will push us up over the record for annual snowfall. Had to cut trails in the back yard just so that Clifford could go out and do his business.

I cant wrap my head around "40C below". Mind you, I cant wrap my head around "40C above either! There is something to be said fo a temperate climate.

40 below is hard to wrap your head around but it can sure wrap around you. I don't really understand wind chill factor as it represents the effect of the temp/wind on bare human flesh. My bare flesh is in hibernation until spring. There is not a huge amount of snow here, quite a bit falling in December, but just frequent siftings since (cold weather snow). Surprisingly, despite the very cold winter the ice thickness is only 20 to 24 inches compared to a normal 30 plus. The early snow had a"insulating" effect on the ice. Winter activities here include ice fishing, snowmobiling with an extensive trail system, cross country skiing, and huddling by the stove until spring.

Just think: Airlie could be on the hard and still be on the water. complete with a natural layer of white insulation.
It's so cold here that...
