We had great weather for the row this Saturday, but not enough wind
for any proper sailing.

Thanks to the Dolls and Geigers for hosting the event and providing
sleeping space for many of us at Korth's.

I was relieved that the participants were not in funny costumes. Nice pictures, looks like a good time. I can see that Keene Newports are the shoe of choice (peeking out of the towed boat, and snuck in your shot)

Thorne, there are some crazy sail sets in your photos for the rowers attempting light air sailing.

I'm guessing we sailors wouldn't know how to row either.

Thanks, David. I think your outing posts are great. Looks like a fine time was had by all. I'm about to build a Nutshell. Did you get to sail her? Mine'll be mostly a tender but I'm sure I'll build the sail rig, too.

Well, I'm wearing my Keene's right now (wear 'em every day unless it is raining), so perhaps they are more required than de rigueur?

Didn't get to sail the Nutshell as it was being rowed, and the wind was too light for its small sail anyway. Very burdensome and handsome boat with a very short mast.

As you can see, the wind was close to non-existent and we were all trying our best to catch what little was out there -- with not much success, particularly against an outgoing tide. Everyone but me is an experienced sailor with a correct rig -- I've got the modified Sabot sail with a spritboom that doesn't set right no matter what.

Yes, the wind will be much better at Big Lagoon -- it IS right on the Pacific Ocean, and I've broken a mast during the afternoon breezes. Now I know that when the windsurfers start flying around it is time for the dinghies to head for shore...
