So, a couple years ago Kerri and I went over to the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival. We'd primarily gone up to PT there for a nice afternoon and some sun.
We looked at Trekka and heard her story, then stared at Pirate plus a hundred more. Later, I saw the kits from CLC. I was really taken by the kits, especially the Skerry. (That's a little double-ender with a sprit rig.)
It suddenly occurred to me, that hey, I could build one of these too if I wanted to. But, I could tell that Kerri wasn't all that into the scene, and didn't seem very impressed by my sudden interest in building a wooden boat.
As we were leaving, Kerri spotted a little lapstrake sailing tender on a trailer named "Pip." It was painted an off-white, and I'm pretty sure that the interior was finished bright. This, for Kerri and I, was a very important moment.
"It's sooooo cute," cooed Kerri. "Just look at it."
She absolutely grinned at me. "Pip. Pip. Pip. You need a Pip."
I suppose that Big Food, my 15 foot lapstrake peapod, sprang from that conversation. (As I built the boat in Kerri's backyard!) Sitting here now, I really have doubts that Big Food would exist without Pip.
Anyways, the little boat that seeded a dream on a random festival afternoon is now for sale. I just noticed Pip's ad a few minutes ago on Craigslist.

I don't have any stake or interest in this little boat. (I never saw the boat again.) And I don't know the builder or seller, but having seen the ad, it'd be great if Pip could find a good home.
