Okay maybe I have been spending a few to many minutes on youtube yesterday, but there is some really great footage there under "saiing".
Can someone tell me what kind of boats these are in this video.

According to the Youtube descriptions they are 420s, 470s and Lasers.
I can attest to that...I used to race four twinkies and 470's when I was younger....
And there was some Laser footage as well. Most of the knockdowns were 470's...
I am of the opinion that a well-sailed and set up four twinkie is as fast as any other boat with similar sail area, esp downwind. Except for foilers....

Great youtube link. You know, that looked like a lot of fun. Except the part where it was snowing.
I love how those racers are so desensitized about capsizing ... it's all just a mad scramble to hop onto the centerboard, pull the boat back over, get the crew back in the boat, straighten out the sheets and take off again.

I'll take whatever you're smoking.
Eric. Lots of Lasers and 420's around here. The Lasers can be a lot of fun, the 420's .....well, not sure what to say.

I think that most of that footage is from the Croatian sailing team for the last Olympics.
I have a buddy who is a Finn sailor originally from Croatia. I don't know if he is just pulling my leg but he says that those rough conditions are quite normal in those waters. I thought that I had seen several cruising articles about how beautiful the coastline is around there but no one mentioned it blowing stink all the time.

Apparently the video was a big hit at my wife's workplace, the music drew people over to see what it was all about and then they were hooked on the action. I would love to try one of those boats, what a blast ! Wish I would have known about that kind of sailing when I was 20.

Eric, there are lots of opportunities locally to sail boats like that, stay in touch. My summer plans are "fluid". I will have access to something that will sail though.

Long tiller extension and single hand from the wire is recommended for those that get bored.

Don't discount the fun because of your age. The Finn fleet on the northern Gulf Coast that has popped up, with over 20 boats joining in the last three years, has an average age of around fifty. From what I can see, 'Masters' division sailors represent a large part of the growth within the dinghy classes.
