Yesterday I was fortunate enough to get one of those rare opportunities to crawl all over a stunning project. Most of us don't know a lot about the boat building and restoration activities on New England's west coast, but the Lake Champlain boating community is very active.

The July/August 2004 issue of WoodenBoat had Mashnee featured in its "Saving a Classic" section. She was a 1902 Herreshoff Buzzards Bay 30 in rough shape. The boat was acquired by the Lake Champlain Antique and Classic Boat Society ( www.lcacbs.com ) and moved to Darlings Boatworks ( www.darlingsboatworks.com ) in Charlotte, Vermont for the 100% job.

She is on schedule for a launch this spring and will join the Classic Race Series with varoius races from Maine to New York. Take a few minutes to check out the pictures on their websites.

The quality of work being done by these craftsmen is the best and their pride was well justified. I was in BoatNut Heaven and will look forward to seeing her under sail on Champlain early this summer.

That's great to see.

I was at French and Webb this past week and saw the progress made on the three BB30s there: http://www.frenchwebb.com/images/bb30/restorations.shtm

IIRC, launch date for them is June 21.
