thx for the good advise on not using GitRot and instead patching using step scarfing. I dug out the rot last night and have a 2" by 4 " patch to make. Much easier than the patch J Dillion is going to have to make from looking at his pictures(sorry about the size of your patch job).
I found a source of mahgony veneer and am going to order afew feet. Questions for the group. Does it matter if each patch has the grain running in the same direction or would cross grain patches be stronger? Also, do I need to coat each patch with plan epoxy and let the wood absorb the liquid and then put epoxy/hardner on the patch and lay it in place? If I staple the patches in place should I pull the staple before the next patch? In another thread someone suggested applying CPES to the wood first to seal off any rot that might have been missed. Is this necessary?
If I can find a camera I will post pictures as I go along.
