Stan Laurel of the comedy team Laurel & Hardy owned a great boat that has now been restored to pristine condition.

She's featured in the new issue of Classic Yacht with an audio recording of Laurel's clock which was apparently special to him. www.classicyachtmag.com (http://www.classicyachtmag.com)

Another spectacular boat owned by a comic actor was the 1885 - built Dixon Kemp clipper bowed counter sterned steam yacht Amazone, which was restored and owned for many years by Arthur Lowe, who was best known as the pompous bank manager Captain Mainwaring in "Dad's Army".
Lowe lived aboard her, and used her as a base when touring in provincial theatres in Britain - he would steam round to the nearest suitable port for the theatre that he was appearing in.

Said to be in the Med. I cannot find a single picture of her on the Net - she's big - maybe 80ft LOA, maybe a bit more - and very recognisable - long clipper bow and counter stern and a "stovepipe" funnel. She was white when Arthur Lowe had her.

She was (is) another CYA vessel (Laurel's boat). Last I heard she was in Newport. Beautiful interiors. Absolutely stunning. The kind of thing I'd think would catch a sail boat lover's eye.

I would like to have a set of plans for the Ida May......I like that one very much......and it looks nice throughout and also looks comfortable....

Funny thing is that I only got interested in yachts myself after reading about Errol Flynn's Zaca. Despite moboing with my dad through France and on the River Shannon. Thought it was a bit dull!

I like KIYI.

KIYI, the Schertzer 50, belongs to Tom and Patty Henderson. She's been inactive for several years while she gets a major re-fit. Very pretty boat Dave. Up close she's the smallest, daintiest fifty foot boat in the fleet, but taken alone at a bit of distance it's difficult to know how big she is because here scale is so good. She won't be there.

IIRC KIYI was also owned by Jay Benford back in the late 60s.

Regretted owning the boat? Or selling it?
