Does anyone know if they make an adapter that goes from a 1/4 ins. hex drive to a 1/4 ins. threaded arbor?

Not seen one. Make one. Just weld it up.

I'm looking into making one--maybe threading a 1/4 ins. socket drive, or something like that. I thought they might make a production item somewhere, but can't seem to find one.

Just weld a 1/4" bolt onto an old socket.

Here's a tool I made up to get a power steering pipe fitting undone. The fitting was located underneath the exhaust headers and whilst I could get a spanner on it, my arm was so contorted I couldn't get any leverage. I just welded an old busted socket onto a cut-down cheap spanner - bingo, instant success.

I'm not sure this is what you're thinking of...

LJ Smith, the staircase parts supplier, makes a 'Dowel Runner'. It drives their 'Dowel-fast' screws. You use the 'Runner' to drive the double ended lag into the tread, then just screw the predrilled baluster down onto the screw.

It's 5/16ths, though.

I'm trying to go from a 1/4 ins. quick-change hex drive to a 1/4 ins. thread. Welding a bolt into a nutdriver socket would work, but it's kind of small for that.

Thread the end of some hex stock (or an old "long" screw driver bit)? Then epoxy it into the nutdriver socket. BTW, I though the quick change hex drive things were 5/16" hex not 1/4" hex drive??? Or are you talking about 1/4" square drive that has a 5/16" socket on the other end?

It turns out I actually need a 5/16 ins. for threaded part---I think this is a standard dimension on some pits, so maybe have to do is thread it.

It is a standard quick-change hex drive--I thought they called it a 1/4 ins. drive--it's 1/4 ins. flat-to-flat.

the standard hex quick- change drivers are 1/4 inch. there are some quick-change screw drivers that use a 5/16 hex, though.
