My father-in-law, age 93 at 6AM, peacefully. The finest gentleman I've ever known. Never heard him say a harsh word about anyone. He'll be missed, especially by his wife of almost 69 years.

His obit if you're interested: http://www.legacy.com/Savannah/Obituaries.asp?Page=LifeStoryPrint&PersonID=110588051

Thanks. I'm off to take Margaret to the airport. She'll be in Savannah with her mother for the week while I coordinate things up here where they have plots next to their two sons.

He was born in Longview, Texas of a family that developed the Kelly 'blue' plow, long favored as a dependable sodbuster across the south. At age seven he learned to drive a car. His mother died young and he was raised by his aunt and sister who justed turned 100. He was an Eagle Scout. He befriended Bigfoot Sam, a twelve-toed sharecropper's son and they played golf together at every chance. Over his lifetime of playing he shot eighteen holes-in-one, or 'a perfect game' as we would say.

He followed his brother east to Harvard for college and business school, graduating to work for the same paper company his entire life in accounting, manufacturing, computers and finally with his wife as co-directors of environmental protection and pollution abatement.

He was a jazz enthusiast, great dancer and maintained a fine sense of humor right up to the end.

Dave.. Sorry to hear about your loss.It is always tough to lose a family member. However, based on what you wrote, he was 93, lived a full life, was well loved and hence, will be well remembered and he died peacefully. I know you all will remember him as he was.. a good man.

The other day, I found an old tape (1973) of my mother reading her poetry. I plan on getting it transferred to CD and giving it to her grand children and great grandchildren so that they will have something to remember her by and pass on down to future generations. Needless to say, when I found it, I played it over and over again and remembered vividly all of the good times we had and the goodness she represented.

An especially worthy life to celebrate, especially for the benefit of any grandchildren (and greatgrandchildren?) who did not know him younger.

Condolences from Savannah.

His obit sums up his remarkable life very well but it takes close family such as yourself to tell us about his golden heart.
