Well almost a repeat of when the Pride of Baltimore went by several days ago except this time it was the Bluenose II!

Them with sharp eyes may notice the main topmast has been lowered somewhat to allow passage under the non-lifting bridges of the St.Lawrence Seaway..

Hard to say how many more years she has left in her,but already she appears to have a broken back judging by the way the aft section really droops.
Anyhow, the Great Lakes are going to be busy places for at least grand sailing vessels :)

Thanks for posting the pics. We are off to see Laura Ellen's big sister next weekend in Toronto.

At least LAURA ELLEN has her shear back where it belongs and will come out stunning:)
Pains my heart to see the Bluenose II like this however, just shamefull it is.

gee... that's not a schooner, that's a ketch ;-)
Really? you see a "broken back" there? Looks pretty good to me, but then, I don't know anything, anyway!

I was lucky enough to serve as her Navy liaison last year during Tall Ships, and she was in awesome condition topside and below.
Bluenose II has an incredible Master, Mate, Engineer, and crew and based on their expertise I'd say the broken back is more than likely not the case.

She is impressive,in many ways ........perhaps that is why there is a Bluenose III under serious consideration?
Peter
I see her squatting under power, I don't really see hog in those pictures. I also don't think she would be sailing if she had a "broken" back.
She does indeed have a hog in her keel, and it telegraphs itself all the way to the sheer. And that is just plain old age. The ship is now over forty-five years old and built of materials and of a standard that was expected to last as long as her illustrious predecessor - about twenty-five years or so. She also went through a period of about ten years where she was cared for (not) by a government comittee, not a caring & knowlegable owner. She suffered from that. The cosmetics and structural issues that came from the period of near-neglect were repaired, but a problem as large & fundamental as a hogged keel cannot be readily repaired on vessel as large as The Bluenose II. There is an on-going and intense conversation in out local circles about when, where, and how Bluenose III can be built for the inevitable day when Bluenose II must be retired.

I'm glad you showed up mmd to shed some light on this. I was employing the phrase "broken back" to mean hog.Clearly, broken back means something else altogether. I had better stop getting my mords wixed up:)
Thanks everyone!
