Just got back. We launched our 1959 Joel Johnson built Ostkust today on the noon high tide. :) I guess I was a little cocky after last years successful launch - this year it didn't go as smooth. But she's taking up nicely now. I left the camera on board but I took a couple of cell phone pics:

Back from the boat again. We needed an AC shorepower pump this year. She took on lots more water than last year. Last year I was so worried that I hosed down the inside of the boat three times a day for two weeks. This year I only hosed it down a few times total. Next year I'll go back to the original technique. The smaller pump is barely running now. The mast will be stepped tomorrow, I hope.
Here are some more pics:

Looks good sorry I missed you call yesterday but I got your cell phone MMS ;)
She looks great cant wait to go for a sail. Bottom and topsides look aces. Yea I got a little lax in my prep with Tidbit this year and as you know she took on a more lot of water this year. Tidbit is cedar on oak so the planks swell quite a bit, what's talisman again ?
Also no boot-stripe, Im kinda fond of them but then I'm a catboat sailor, were weird ;)
PS: I love all the photos where everyone is looking down in the bilge in every photo, I KNOW that feeling ;)

Way to go! She looks great!

Thanks, folks. I think I'd like a bootstripe, too. Someday. We ran the shorepower pump for about 4 hours. Not too bad I guess. But it was a long four hours.
She's mahogany on oak, very traditional. She still has her original canvas decks. They've just about had it, though.

She looks great Steven and I really like the back drop of Portland/Casco Bay. Wish I was there! How long have you had her?

Ah , I was wondering what your issues where. Not "pre-wet" enought, or should that have been "Not enough pre-wetting!" ?? :D She looks sweet Steven , any other photo's of that sail boat you took the photo across in this shot?

It looks like a sweet ride as well:cool:
Does the marine rent out those Zodiacs (sp) that are tied to the dock or are they more private tenders to get out to the mooring fields?
Have a great season all you Bauer's!

Oooooooh, she's a lovely thing! You'll be improving the scenery wherever you go! Congratulations!
Talisman looks awesome. Very classy, Steven.
Fantastic, Steven - she looks great! Can't wait to see some sailing shots.

Nice boat, Steven, but isn't it a bit on the narrow side?

:D
Only to youse catboat type fellas. :)
Paul, I was wondering who would ask about the boat in the foreground. Ya can't have a good thread without a little drift, eh? She's named Prowess, an Eldrige-McInnis beauty. I'll try to get some pics later when I check on Talisman and run the engine to top up the batteries. I moved her over to a mooring, she was getting beaten up at the dock with the ferry, trawler and tanker wakes. Stuff was starting to break. :(
Mast gets stepped tomorrow, though, then after work I'll take her over to our mooring. :)

I think I'd like a bootstripe, too. Someday.
I was looking at the photos and thinking how classic she looks without a bootstripe. Sometimes (not you, Steve) owners of relatively small boats can't help themselves from adding this or that and the craft end up looking so 'busy' they lose their basic appeal.

Steven,
Gorgeous as last year. I also vote for the simple look. (I may be slightly prejudiced.)
How's the pump rate now? Engine OK? Hope to stop in Portland this Summer on our way to the Reach.
See you in Mystic. Will you and Mary make Lefty's?
Russ
Yup, no need to gild the lily.
Yup from this quarter too.

Alright Steven bout time big guy.... Schools out and its time to sail !
Once you get a few shakedown sails in, we'll meet around the south point of Whaleboat and do some side by side sailing and photography.
Eric
BTW. Got your message the other evening. figured you would be busy setting Talisman up.

As if you cared, I would also vote 'no' on the bootstripe. Simple is better as far as I'm concerned.
She looks great Steven, as always. A very wholesome design, I have always thought. A fitting boat for the happy Bauers. May you have a joyeous summer together.
