Hi, this is my first post. I have been reading Wooden Boat magazine for years.
I was just given a 12' Whirlwind outboard type boat from an old family friend. They put it out at the trash but at the last minute asked me if I wanted it since I have built a few Mahogany kayaks.
It has the # 10936 near the transom. It is in nice shape, with no rot or delaminating. The boat was painted and the paint is flaking and taking some of the verneer with it. How do I remove the paint without removing the verneer.
I have worked with the epoxy/cloth cold molding process. I would like to bring it back to its original wood look.

Any idea what year this was made?
Thanks for any help,

Welcome to the Forum!

Looks like a fun boat. Can you post some closeups of any areas you have questions about? Is it covered in veneer or just marine ply with thin layers? Sure looks like the starboard gunwale in the aft section has lost a layer or two.

Are the seats solid wood, or is it all ply?
