I have E. M. White wooden lapstrake boat. Some of what I believe to be the original wood on the boat has the numbers 6403 stamped into them. One says 20-6403. Any ideas as to what these numbers mean. Thanks in advance. Happy Boater Jeff Goldberg

These are likely serial numbers that EM White used. The Wooden Canoe Heritage Association has a Serial Number Forum here:

http://forums.wcha.org/index.php?

Post your numbers there and the fine wooden canoe nuts there should be able to tell you something.

I would interpret as the 20th boat in the series built in March 1964...

Many ways that the number could be interpreted. The Chris numbering system is 20....meaning 20ft ....followed by the serial number of boat.

I am not sure about the Grady-White numbering system. A good asset is the site the thompsondockside....specializes in boat like this.

Too lazy to find the url for you. You'll find it. Andreas, the guy that runs the place is a frequent poster here.

E M White Boats and Grady-White Boats are not related in any way, shape or form.
