Remind me, dear friends, when next I ponder the virtues of a larger boat...

When two more feet might make all the difference...

Remind me how nice it is to be able to flip the boat over all by ones self.

Remind me, too, that sanding an upsidedown boat is vastly more pleasant than a rightsideup one.

And remind me that a boat that lives on a trailer needs no bottom paint, so when I sand I won't be killing myself inordinately quicker than I already am.

And finally, remind me how nice it is to be able to get EXACTLY two coats, a few touch-ups and a dribble here and there out of a QUART of brightside paint. That's a quart for the outside and a quart for the inside.

Ahhhhhhhh. If I can get through this Spring without buying anymore boat plans I'm in the clear.

Hmm. It sure would be nice to sail a well-provisioned boat from island to island, going wherever the mood took me. What a pleasure that would be! To anchor in a quiet cove, rustle up a goat curry in the spacious galley, then share a bottle with a couple of friends under the stars...maybe hop over the sides for a midnight swim, before I retire with my lover to a snug berth, drifting off to sleep with the waves slapping quietly against the strong planks of the boat I built with my own hands...

I think I'll go leaf through those Designs books again. :D

and at the end of a tiring weekends sailing , perhaps you've just beat back 20 miles into a nice firm steady 18 knots, you tie up your old boat and just get off and go home. No struggle up a ramp onto a trailer,no fiddling about, just go 'ome.
ps.
what's a quart? 4 pints?( that's ummm 4 x .6 = ummmm 2.4 litres?) quarter gallon? I've forgotten or maybe I haven't. Can't really tell anymore because my memory has been affected by the sunscreen. aluminium pots and sunscreen.. what chance did I have?

You guys have a funny way of helping....

Bruce, sounds lovely...for you. I lost a bigger boat to a hurricane and I don't care to do that again any time soon.

John, you mean you kiwis use those japanese inches too? Good heavens there goes the neighborhood. Quart=quarter gallon. twenty miles sail from here gets me...lessee, twenty miles away. We're a bit removed from the chain, so island hopping or harborhopping isn't a big attraction. Besides, the sea floor rises so abruptly on our north shore that beyond the shelf edge it's a wild ride, even in the fast ferry. We pounded one of those old soviet hydrofoils to bits a few years ago.

You expect a bunch of boataholics to help you quit? You might as well ask the bartender for a temperance lecture. Come on, build another...just one more... :D

;)

There's a reason why the panel next to the door is removable. It will just about fit a Dark Harbor....
