Upon returning to US waters from Freeport we encountered two submarines on two different occasions. Just before dawn entering Port Canaveral FL. We were almost on top of one before we realized it was there. They never showed up on our radar screen. My question is this. In the middle of the night in the middle of the ocean will radar reflect surface warships?

They dont use AIS either.

The sub, being a stealth weapon, probably has a coating that absorbs radar/sonar beams. Don't know about surface ships.
