Hey, I know a guy that is looking for a competent boat builder within 8-10hr drive from Long Island. The project is a 26' Bartender. Preferably a small shop that charges realistic rates. Must be an established professional with good referals.
I can recommend a bunch here in the NW but don't know any in the NE.
Thanks.

Send an email to this guy...named Roger. He's on the south shore of LI, about halfway out:

I highly recommend Michael Kortchmar of Southold, NY, on the North Fork of Long Island approx. 2 hours drive from NYC. He does new construction and restoration and is excellent.

Thanks for all your replys both on and off list. Looks like lots of good choices. I've passed all these contacts on to the guy interested in finding a builder.
Great group here.

Here's one more to pass along, Southshore Boatworks in MA.
The quality and craftmanship is second to none and the rates are competetive with those in coastal Maine.
This small shop has cranked out a wide variety of character boats and has quietly done everything from steamboats to dories. A picture is worth a thousand words so your aquaintance should take a look at the SSBW website.
