I was finally able to open the latest edition of The Surfer's Journal (v.17 #4) last night and the first article I came upon (p.14) was about boat design. It's about the development of a rapid response rescue boat. What caught my eye was that George Greenough is heavily involved in this project.

OK, the boat is all f.g., no wood so this post may not fit well in this forum, but I wanted to let folks who might not know about George Greenough in on what he's been doing. This guy understands water. He's been way out front in developing and building watercraft for years. Predominantly a very innovative surfer and surf board maker he has also designed and built many boats, always paying close attention to the intended use of the boat. He is also an accomplished ocean voyager, building and sailing his own boat from California to Australia, as well as a creative film maker with a new film coming out very soon.

If you have room in your magazine budget to check out another excellent periodical (other than the excellent Wooden Boat) you may want to pick up a copy of The Surfer's Journal from time to time. Since the articles cover the world you often find very interesting pictures and articles of what I call vernacular boats. Boats built by people who use them to wrest a living out of the sea. Boats designed by builders to be built with what is on hand and to meet very local conditions.

The worlds of sailors and surfers are far from separate.

[BTW, I have no connection to any kind of publishers of anything although I have been in a surfing film as well as pictured in a children's book (white bearded ol' Todd), but those are very different stories.]

I'll have to check it out. Been frustrated at the poor writing and overbranding of the popular surf mags (comes with geezerhood, I guess).

What movie? From your location I'd guess "Step Into Liquid"...the Land o Lakes segment?
