Bronze and stainless deck plates are quite expensive, but plastic deck plates don't look so good.
I'm thinking that perhaps I could cover a plastic deck plate with a wood disk to improve its appearance.
Is there anyone out there who has done this? How did it work out?

No reason why it should not work. However, you will end up with a cover that is no longer flush. In addition it will be a toe stubber if your decks are large enough to walk on. Personally I would opt to either bite the bullet and go for a bronze plate either new or from a used boat gear shop such as Minney's.

Buy a $5.00 can of bronze spray paint. Or better yet gold:cool:

I don't think these are so ugly.
