Just got in from the mailbox with a package for Tally Ho, Ken & me. We opened it and were amazed by the object it held. :D Vince, Thank you for the instructions to open it. :o Otherwise we would have just admired it for your fantastic knotwork!! I'll take a picture as soon as I find the camera and instructions to operate it!!

It is a section of bamboo with a number of different knots to make the stopper, etc. When we followed the instructions to open it, out fell a leather needle. (at least I think that is what it is. I used to use one when I did the harness work for our sled dogs.). Outside it is properly identified in beautiful scrollwork.

:) Vince we will take pleasure in it each time we use it. Thank you so much from both Ken and I. By the way, what would you call it!!

It's a sail needle case of "Tonkin" (toughest) bamboo with an 8-point double starknot stopper, captive catch cord and two monkeys fists.

Enjoy!

(That's a SAIL needle... note that it's not sharp on the triangular section? You don't want the needle to cut the canvas, just separate the warp and weft so the sailtwine goes between them, thus maintaining the integrity of the fabric. A leather needle (glover's needle) IS shapened along the ridges of the triangle so that it provides somewhere to 'catch' and hold the twine and make it easy to get the round afterpart (barrel) thru the leather to complete the stitch. Try sewing leather with a round needle sometime and you'll rapidly see why a triangular needle is used!)

Thanks for the explanation Vince. I knew if I just put my foot in my mouth I'd be set straight!!!;)

And yes I did try a round needle once (only once) on some leather upholstery many moons ago..

Again Vince Thanks for such and exquisite piece of art.:)

I still laugh every time I go to see what date it is! One sick calendar!
