So, what are some good laptops that are known for being hardy in a marine environment?
We'll probably need two. One for chart plotting and another for DVD watchin' and backup chart plotting.
XP would be the OS of choice, so it doesn't have to be super fancy, just as long as it's rugged and resistant to moisture.
Anything a known performer on a boat?
thanks

You can run a car over it.
Spill a beer on it and wash it off under a faucet.

The Panasonic Toughbooks are truly tough. Only problem is the cost. You can buy 2 or 3 decent notebooks for the same price. Foe second computers on board, the little Asus Eee PC's are becoming popular. They use SSD memory instead of hard drives, eliminating one of the more fragile parts. Your choice of XP or Linux. I know of two that are being used as the main navigation computer.
I recently bought a low cost Lenovo Idea Pad that's been working great for entertainment. Seems pretty well built, has very good sound for a notebook and plays DVD's really well. I added an AverMedia TV tuner express card that does a nice job with both analog and digital TV, given a good antenna.
