View Full Version : Fein Turbo II -- cheap filter cartridges?

I love my Fein turbo II shop vacuum but man the price of those 1 micron filter cartridges is insane. Has anyone found an alternative? For example, I find that the 3 gal (I think) home depot brand bags fit well enough but so far no luck finding a filter substitute. They are 6 inch OD, 4.5 in ID and 7 in length. Any ideas would be greatfully received!

I've been using the filter bags in my MiniTurbo and I haven't had to change the cartridge even after a couple of years.

Are you sure you need a new one?

Oh yes, I'm sure. I've knocked the dust out of the folds of the filter many times over the past 4 or 5 years -- a nasty, dusty, toxic activity -- but the time has come to replace it. I use it attached to my PC - ROS to sand antifouling paint and topsides and I am sure that it would suck much better if it were a new filter. In fact, I wouldn't bother knocking the layers of caked-on dust off the filter if I could replace it for say $10-$15.

I was doing the same thing with my miniturbo. Finally bit the bullet and bought a new filter but started using a filter bag over the inlet. One of the folks here posted that certain of the bags for Hoover uprights fit nicely over the inlet and are UCH less expensive than the Fein filter bags. So far, it seems to be working.

I use the ShopVac bags. They work fine.

I've knocked the dust out of my cartridge a few times and even vacuumed it. I guess I should consider getting a new one too.

My cartridges are 15 years old and still working fine. I blow them out with compressed air whenever I empty the vac. Same for the filter bag.

The Fein disposible bags are the greatest thing since sliced bread! My filter stays clean and the bags last an amazingly long time; much longer than the time I used to empty the canister and knock the dust out of the filter.
