Help - When a US site says 4 oz glass cloth what exactly are the units?

Ounces per linear yard of 54" wide? or ounces per square yard?

Depending on what you're planning to do, you also want to look if it is S-glass or E-glass cloth. S-glass is fractionally stronger (~10%, but is usually considerably more expensive) You'll also want to see if it is "treated". Some have Volan treatment which is compatible with both epoxy and polyester resins, some have resin specific coatings. Always best to ask.

And volan cloth has a slightly greenish tint which you might not want on a transparent layup like on many strippers.

I'll second the question. What are you making?

I'm not - Nice guy from Germany asked - and I though someone here would have a reasonable explanation.

We used West System's Epiglas product with 105/207 epoxy/hardener combo on small canoes - very nice results. Their cloth seemed to have a nice "hand" and "drape" when applying it and the wet-out was excellent.

I've also used System III resins with a Volan treated E-glass cloth with good results as well. The System III has an amber cast, so the green isn't as noticeable. I'm colorblind anyway, so I don't notice it much.
