Hi, I am new to this forum and in need of some advice.
I live on a 50 ' wooden MFV on the Deban river in the UK.
I need to start working on the topsides but the cost of the timber, the time it would take and the expertise needed to replace the boards mean that it would be difficult to do this year.
A friend of mine with an MFV sealed the topsides with epoxy two years ago and has never looked back. The timber dried from the inside and has effectively sealed the boat completely, still giving the outward appearance of a wooden boat.
Below the waterline my boat is solid (sitting in mud most of the time) so it seems a pretty good idea. But I have had a number of different views from boat owners around here, most feel it is a bad idea as they feel the boat will continue to rot from the inside.
It is the time factor for me mostly. I would full time and can only work on her at weekends.
I would welcome any constructive views from the forum.
Best wishes
Grant
